Seriously, what happened to the time when children (and "adults") dressed up in costume and went to strangers' houses in the dark for candy? No, but seriously, it seems that me and my love are the only people that appreciate this dying holiday. Sure it has some sketchy background, but honestly what holiday doesn't? As fellow teacher put it beautifully, "If parents are that upset about it, KEEP YOUR KIDS HOME!" (We were talking about schools not celebrating)
Rants:
1. I don't see decorations anymore, they're replaced with signs that say "No Candy"
2. No schools (that I know of) celebrate Halloween anymore
3. Seriously, no one wants candy?
4. I buy the "good" candy too (for the +20 people that show up-including adults that take them)
5. Good candy is wasted (sugar hangovers the next couple months)
Raves:
1. The few people that come are spending time/making an effort with their children
2. So what if I've seen you sneak up to my home for the 3rd time? You still get candy for the effort (2 years ago a kid and his brother came often and switched masks/costumes)
3. Candy
4. My cat is an attention whore and LOVES to dress up and see the trick-or-treaters walk by and pet him
5. I still dress up and we carve pumpkins a few days before
6. Scaring kids with a scary mask is the best revenge ever (for teachers/parents/older siblings)
7. You really need more raves? Then YOU'RE DOING IT WRONG!
Life lesson: I took my youngest brother to the haunted houses at Fiesta Mall and I learned two valuable lessons: When a guy welding a chainsaw is after you and 'fight or flight' kicks in-your own family will leave you behind without a second thought & second-never assume a big burly male stranger is NOT capable of screaming like a little girl when scared.
I'm plotting to scare the bejebus out of kids this Friday with a scary costume and I'm honestly really looking forward to it.
Ah, the simple pleasures in life...
